“The future is female.” This is a statement we're hearing more and more these days. And indeed, it is true. Across various spheres of our lives, women's ideas and actions are reshaping the world in ways never seen before, yet for most women, the road to acknowledgment has been nothing short of challenging. However, given the amount of influence and impact that women today have on the world, it's hard to deny the significance of days like Women's Day.

BCI celebrates Women’s Day 2022.

Although Bar Code India is best known for being the country's largest supply chain management solutions provider, the company is also dedicated to promoting gender equality. To commemorate International Women’s Day, BCI held a virtual self-defense session for female employees, followed by a pizza party at the premises. Chocolates and a book by Indra Nooyi, My Life in Full: Work, Family, and Our Future, were also given as presents to all female members of the organization across India. Indeed, all employees had a good time as they shared their experiences and commented on how BCI's transparent work culture made them feel comfortable and empowered.

International Women’s Day 2022

Every year on March 8, International Women's Day honors and celebrates women's achievements across cultural, political, and socioeconomic lines. This year was no exception. On March 8th, organizations and groups from all over the world came together to celebrate womanhood and raise awareness about the various forms of discrimination and abuse that women face solely due to their gender. The United Nations' theme for this year was "Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow." According to the UN, “The year 2022 is pivotal for achieving gender equality in the context of climate change and environmental and disaster risk reduction, which are some of the greatest global challenges of the twenty-first century.” #BreakTheBias, another theme for this year's Women's Day, aims for an equitable and inclusive world—free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. Since technology has traditionally been a male-dominated field, this has been particularly challenging for women. Despite this, the technology industry seems to be closing the gender gap now. According to the Deloitte Global study, the gender gap is gradually narrowing, and 25% of the sector is expected to be female by the end of it. But many companies are now stepping up by building a vibrant community that fosters career growth, mentorship, and networking for women within the company and beyond. Shouldn’t we talk in a technological context here rather than climate change? Given the growing importance of fostering gender equality in all aspects of life, particularly the workplace, several organizations have made it a priority to commemorate this special day by honoring women and their contributions. Bar Code India (BCI) took it a notch higher, with its creative events and incentives that extended well beyond the day.

Celebrating Women Every Day

It's worth noting that BCI's efforts aren't exclusive to the specific day. Beyond Women's Day celebrations, BCI has taken various additional initiatives and schemes for the support and betterment of its female employees as an organization that realizes that its success is based on the strength and empowerment of its workforce. Paid maternity leave, frequent workshops on women's empowerment, and physical and mental health workshops are among them. BCI is also devoted to assisting both female and male employees outside of the workplace through initiatives such as scholarship programs for employees’ children's education and medical assistance for those in need. In terms of Barcode's plans to promote gender equality in the workplace, the company intends to establish a culture of shared accountability in which noncompliance is not tolerated, and well-defined methods and metrics of success are in place to help achieve this goal. BCI's other future initiatives for gender equality include assuring ongoing unconscious bias training, fostering development at all levels, building an inclusive gender-diverse workplace, proactively sourcing gender-diverse pipelines, and having fair compensation policies.
